Getting to Mallorca

Getting to Mallorca

Getting to Mallorca isn’t difficult, but we recommend booking flights and ground transportation well in advance and allowing plenty of time to navigate connections and travel logistics.

Our recommendation: book a flight to Europe (Barcelona, Madrid, London, Paris, Munich) on your preferred airline and then purchase a separate ticket with a regional European carrier, such as Ryanair, Vueling, or Air Europa, to travel to Palma (PMI).

While there are direct flights from NYC (United flies direct from EWR), one or two-stop itineraries that go through Spain, Germany, or France tend to cost less and offer more flexibility.

We frequent the NYC -> BCN -> PMI route on a combination of Delta and Ryanair, and we’ve never had any problems. If you’re stressed about flights, reach out. Kristen’s a pro at this part.

Tips

What airport should I fly into?

Palma International (PMI) is the only major commercial airport on Mallorca, so all flights will land in Palma.

While Barcelona (BCN) is the easiest connection, there are great connecting airports, including Madrid, Paris, London, Munich, and Frankfurt.

I ‘m new to international travel. What should I know?

  1. Give yourself more time than you think for connections (at least 2hr between landing and boarding).

  2. Read your airline’s baggage restrictions!!! Euro airlines have very different carry-on and baggage restrictions. Please familiarize yourself to save yourself the pain of gate-checking luggage.

  3. Check your passport. It must be valid for six months past your travel date for you to fly.

  4. Check your cellular plan for international rates so you’re not surprised by charges. If your international coverage is $$$, consider getting an eSIM. Kristen uses Alosim.

  5. Don’t stress. International travel is very similar to domestic travel, just with different airport snacks. If you’re concerned, reach out.

How do I get around once I’m in Mallorca?

If you plan on exploring the island on your own, RENT A CAR. They’re cheap, and rideshare infrastructure is limited, so you’ll be reliant on taxis and buses if you don’t.

If you’re just joining us for the wedding, we'll provide transportation to all events, so you can do without a car. Just know it will be difficult to explore places beyond Soller/Palma.

How far is Soller from the airport?

Soller and Port de Soller are 30-40 minutes from the airport by car. While we recommend renting a car, PMI has plenty of cabs and ubers that can take you to Soller for ~€40.

While there’s not a bus directly to Soller, you can also catch the A1 bus from the airport to central Palma and take the 204 bus to Soller.
